Hi
I am a budding statistician pursuing my bachelors from India. I want to know the options that are open to me after my undergraduation and what all I can take up after the same.
Hi~ I also want to ask about graduate studies in Statistics. I majored in actuarial science for my undergraduate study. After graduation, I have worked for 7 years… 5 years in stochastic modeling in an insurance company and then 1 year in investment, 1 year in actuarial consultancy. I only started to explore my interest in the recent 2-3 years. And I concluded that I enjoy coding and statistics related stuff. I took some open courses on machine learning in my leisure time but in the end decided that I prefer structured learning. I do think that ultimately we’ll need to do self-learning, but I would very much like to have some intense structured learning to lay the foundation. Now I’m planning to apply for master studies in Statistics or machine learning related areas. I like the machine learning master program by CMU but not sure whether the program would consider candidates with my background.
Generally I find myself not interested in “management” skills, which is what I would need to develop if I continue with my career. Not much to learn on technical side, mainly need to pick up more and more on people and project management. So I’ve been wondering whether I might like the academic type jobs. But I guess it’s a bit too late for me to pursue that path. I think with a Sta master, if I go back to industry, maybe in the end I’ll face the same “management skill” issue after a few years… though I think at least by then the self-learning I do would be job related and things can move altogether to a direction I want.
Um… I guess I’m just kind of lost… typed a lot of things without really saying asking anything meaningful 🙂
